So we have been in Singapore for almost 4 days now. The girls were GREAT on the 3 flights over. Mike and I were completely surprised by how well they did. They ate, they slept and they for the most part entertained themselves. Thank you Apple for inventing the iPad!So in order to sell the girls (really Addison) on the idea of moving to Singapore, we had to promise them that they would get them bunk beds. For some reason, a bunk bed is to a 5 yr old what I'm only can imagine a trunk load full of Sudafed is to a meth head. I don't understand the love affair, but none-the-less it was a good selling tactic. However, if we got Addison a bunk bed, we had to get Isla a bunk bed as well. So alas, we have 2 bunk beds...
For those of you who don't know, we did not move any of our furniture to Singapore. Instead, we elected to buy furniture once we got here. So the only things that we currently have with us are clothing and a couple of toys. We do have some personal items coming on an air shipment, but we haven't gotten those things yet. We were fortunate that Mike was able to buy and have delivered our beds, couch and TV before we arrived. However, we really need a ton of other things. Like electrical appliances (toaster, coffee maker, hair dryers, vacuum cleaner, etc.), end tables, dining room table, night stands, as well as random household stuff like cleaning supplies.
So on Saturday, we spent the majority of the day shopping. We headed out to the Ikea and loaded up on cheap furniture...and then headed across the street to a large store called Courts that has household electronics, bedding, furniture, etc. If you have ever been to an Ikea on the weekend...you know it is a nightmare. Same way in Singapore. It was packed. So by the time we got to Courts I was fried. I just started throwing things in a cart. Two of those things were a mop and bucket. So when we finally got into a cab to head back home, Mike said "now don't get upset or take this the wrong way...but did you intend to spend $300 on a mop and bucket?" WTF is what I was thinking. I didn't even look at the price. The vacuum cleaner was less than that. I was convinced we were charged incorrectly or something. So we got home and checked it out. I did indeed buy the worlds most expensive bucket. It doesn't even clean for you. It is just a bucket. So from now on I will check the price tags on all things I buy. I hope Courts has a favorable return policy.
